The Woman I Am - Kellie Pickler

Kellie Pickler offers us a high quality album. Almost every song have a great story to them and are well-written... a thing that some artists should take great note of. I've said it and repeat it: there is nothing that is as bad as making empty songs just for the sake of it. There are not that many songs with radio potential considering what we got on there lately, but if you like her voice and high-quality music and stories, and don't care about not wanting to dance on every single song, this album is for you.

I wouldn't say the album is diverse, but we have quite a few types of songs: the catchy, upbeat songs (Little Bit Gypsy), the slow songs but very well-written (Closer To Nowhere), and the songs emphasizing more on her voice (Someone Somewhere Tonight). She doesn't write all the songs herself, but participates in a lot of them. The songs, like said previously, almost all have great lyrics to them, which is something I appreciate quite a lot.

The album is also quite short, at 41 minutes, but that's fine for me. I prefer all high quality songs than having filler songs like I've seen previously on other albums (in other words, songs that are there but add nothing).

As a whole, great album, very very consistent, but to make it a top-tier album, I would have loved to have one or two more home runs.

8.5/10

Little Bit Gypsy
This song is great, it's a very nice way to start the album. It's catchy and well-written (another proof that you can make a catchy song without falling in cliché lyrics). Very well done as an introduction song for the album.

9/10

Ring For Sale
Sadly, the song becomes quickly repetitive. On the other hand, it's quite well-written, and the guitar is very good to go with it. As a whole, it's an enjoyable song.

7.5/10

Buzzin'
The guitar is very good in this song, as the whole music. The song, sadly, has about no story to it. Again, it's a bit repetitive.

6.5/10

The Woman I Am
This is another well-written song, it's quite slow. The song talks about who she is, how different she is and how she was raised. It's a good song, but the story doesn't touch me so much.

7/10

Closer To Nowhere
This is a great song, it's very-well written, it's harmonious. It's a slow song, but very enjoyable.

8.5/10

Selma Drye
This is a song about her grandmother, and how strong of a woman she was. The song is upbeat, but to me, felt inconsistent at points. The music sometimes didn't quite match the lyrics, and vice-versa. Anyways, another high quality song.

7/10

I Forgive You
This is a good sad song. Like I said in other reviews, I'm really not a fan of the sad songs that just do that, be sad, with the slow guitar all along with no creativity to it. There are pitches in this one, it makes it different and enjoyable.

8/10

Bonnie And Clyde
Great song, very well-written. This story making the comparison between the famous outlaws and the "criminal love" is nice. The song is upbeat and enjoyable.

8/10

Where Did Your Love Go
Another great sad song. It's harmonious, and has upbeat moments. Even though we feel the emotion, it's not as depressing as other songs from other albums I've reviewed. As a whole, enjoyable.

8/10

No Cure For Crazy
Another well-written song, but the music for me was just too much at the same time. The guitar solo was great though, and fitted well considering the context and the "bad-girl" aspect of the song.

7.5/10

Tough All Over
Slow, and more old-school kind of sad song. Surprisingly, the story to it is only average, it doesn't say that much.

5/10

Someone Somewhere Tonight

The singing in that some is very impressive. The story to it is also quite good. It's slow, but the emphasis is very much on Kellie's voice. As a whole, wonderful song.

8.5/10
